The plan was to create a drop-in alternative to the Nagios core. If it
breaks compatibility (= Nagios users cannot use their configuration), it
is not an alternative any more. Why? Because people have to modify their
configs just to get past the shinken arbiter config checks. How long are
admins willing to spend on these changes? Half an hour? At least the good
admins i know don't have half an hour just to play around. Others will
simply be frustrated.
If Shinken works out of the box, there's a better chance to leave a
positive impression.
