there is a git repo of the people packaging for debian available (git://anonscm.debian.org/pkg-shinken/shinken.git), but: $ python setup.py --command-packages=stdeb.command debianize $ dpkg-buildpackage -b -rfakeroot in the git tree did what it should (thanks again to the devel's for the fixes there) and produces a nice .deb for installation and the first test showed it's running.
