I agree that these should be removed.  I have seen Craig McClanahan's
name in @author tags in Tomcat and other projects, so I know they
exist elsewhere, but I definitely agree with you.  Can we add this as
a Jira issue for 1.0.1?

My personal hope is to not delay the release for any reason other than
due to a mandatory requirement.
