decorated error messages

guys:

The current system is not doing it for me. As a "special needs" programmer, I am 
somewhat reality-challenged in the area of syntax. I get along best with 
languages that...

 - report line numbers with error messages
 - spew error messages to the STDOUT console
 - permit p to trace things

I made a feeb attempt to pass caller() thru the Shoes.log system, so I could 
print it out in the log.rb, but it didn't work. Is there a simpler fix I'm 
overlooking?
