If Flash were open sourced, we could probably glean a few things from it, but I would be weary of basing Shoes upon Flash. It isn't stable on Linux and I like Pango's text layout much better. And since VLC support gives us so many video formats that Flash doesn't have, it would be a lot of work to build a hybrid. It's a fun idea, but starting over isn't what we need. We just need more speed and stability, which will happen in time. Speed will be gained by having Shoes redraw only invalidated sections of a page. And stability will come once I get the bug tracker back up and I can work on the crashy parts that are bothering people. Also, I am much more lured in by Clutter[1] than Flash. _why [1] http://clutter-project.org/
