I am, in fact, on OSX. I downloaded Portaudio from here: http://www.portaudio.com/archives/pa_stable_v19_20071207.tar.gz and built it locally in the traditional manner.

I seem to also have a listing for it under macports:
portaudio                      @19.20071207    audio/portaudio

Not sure if this could be the problem.

troubles with this. On Ubuntu, thing appear to be quite good. How
did you build Portaudio?

Also, I should clear up that our friend freQvibez (a legit member of
farbrausch) just happened to start sending patches and has been very
instrumental in adding features, he even expanded the notation to
allow filter tweaks. He lends some credibility to the endeavor is
what I'm saying.
