I'm not sure how beneficial another Ubuntu based distribution would be--in
my mind Sarah's suggestion that edubuntu get the shoes treatment would be a
better idea. Unless your goal is to create a very small and lightweight
distribution around Shoes, which is a niche no distro has yet addressed.
However I urge you to bear in mind how many distros there already are and
weigh that against the benefits of starting a new one.

E17 is flat out Awesome! I haven't fallen in love with a desktop, ever. (OS
X is nice but makes me sad). But for e17 I've fallen hard.

Here are some distros that are e17 centric that you might want to look into

OzOS is based on Ubuntu and run by a core e17 contributer, for instance.

Regards.

P.S. And apologies to _why if this OT thread is annoying. It's been too fun
talking about Linux. Esp. WRT Ruby, since the balance seems so heavily
skewed towards OS X.
