The very first step would be to contribute to the Shogun repository on Github by sending at least one patch, which can be really anything (e.g. fixing a bug, add an example to our cookbook, etc.). To get an idea, please have a look at our entrance tasks [1]. Note that this is a sort of a hard requirement to be considered for the GSoC (as it is stated in the "Getting Started" guide [2]). For the GSoC project itself, I would advise you to first document yourself on the topic (e.g. by reading some of the suggested papers in the project page). Then, you should draft a basic outline of how you would approach this problem. It should be like a plan of the things you want to do (e.g. we do data analysis first, then we will use the models X and Y, etc.). Then we can start discussing a bit more about it. Cheers, Fernando.
