Procedure for installing tight ferrules:
I take my handy dandy hand butane torch,
heat the tip of the shaft 360? for 3 seconds,
slide the ferrule on the tip, push the ferrule on flush with the tip,
wait a 5 or 6 seconds for the tip to heat the ferrule,
push the ferrule down further with a 1" T-handle ferrule installer,
then finish seating the ferrule with the actual head for the shaft.
Takes about 30 second per shaft, done.
I do use often epoxy as a lubricant, especially on steel shafts where the
ferrules will tend to creep away form the hosel.

Subject: ShopTalk: question about installing ferrules

I am getting ready to do my first "shim" and I want to perform a dry-run
before using epoxy. A ferrule will need to be used. Currently it is very
tight when I try to put it on the shaft; only moving about 1/4 inch down
the shaft.

My question is what would be probably the best lubricant to use to put
on the ferrule for the test? I suppose anything could be used but I
wanted some more professional opinions before I tried something.

Thanks!
Ralph
