This one always seems to get some people. The near center and the tip are turning at the same RPM. The tip, however, is traveling much faster as it has to move a greater distance in the same amount of time. Aircraft propellor tips have this problem as the tips approach supersonic speed but the hub does not. Nasty things happen then.
