The flexible plastic
tee looked EXACTLY like a standard wooden tee (except it was an ugly
red color).
Buy some ugly red vinyl or plastic (soft so it won't break) make a bunch as gifts* (read the history of the invention of the golf tee - never sold only given to friends) until another "inventor" modified the rubber tube/wood combination, made wholly out of wood PAINTED RED given to pros nicknamed "reddy" and the rest is history. Personally I would not go back to a small mound of damp sand! Getting your hands dirty is what prompted the original invention by a Boston dentist, copied by a New Jersey dentist. Who wants dirty fingers in a patient's mouth!
