This time of year probably isn't the time for curmudgeons. I mean, December 7, 1941 and all. But . . . how can it possibly be important that Saturday and Sunday emails from ShopTalk are reduced in number? After a few years here I've learned that weekend mailings are considerably fewer in number than are the daily postings. And yet, week after week, we get the insipid messages; "anybody out there?" And "test." And "Just a test, don't answer," from what must be lonely guys.

Fa crine out loud, send yourself a message if there's nothing else to do. There are in fact times when there simply isn't anything to say. And believe it or don't, there are times in life when a person has something important to do other than hanging around the goddam computer waiting for a message.

Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, Happy Hannukah, Feliz Navidad, and for non-believers, bah humbug ;-)

I remain, your humble servant . . .
