Tflan, I agree!!! When the PGA was here at Sahalee, the fairways were in better condition than most greens that I play on!! And the morning after we had a light rain, before the first two players hit the links, the greens and grounds crews were out dew whipping the fairways!!!

Another topic to start controversy. I didn't watch much of the Mercedes, just a few holes yesterday. I saw the 350 to 400 yard drives these guys were hitting. I was stunned that some of them were driving, or coming close to, a 300 yard green with 3 woods and 2 irons. This brought to mind the incessant commentary from many "purists" that equipment was making a mockery of the game. But consider this; the fairways at the Mercedes were better conditioned and at least as fast as a lot of the greens we putt on. And the greens are like velvet. Smooth and fast. To be sure, equipment is better than is was, but I'd venture to say that the conditions under which those guys play are so much better than they were, say, 25 years ago, that 300 yard 3 woods are no big deal. I'm guessing a lot of us here have been to PGA Tour tournaments. I sure as hell have. I'm astounded by how far these guys hit the ball but keep in mind that the distances shown include roll . . . and the ball rolls like hell on those manicured fairways.
