This paper introduces a novel, shaft-mounted measurement system contained in a golf club. The system is capable of measuring and storing shaft strains, accelerations, and the shaft longitudinal rotary motion of the golf club during a golf swing. Preliminary results using the device in conjunction with motion capture systems are analyzed and discussed. Potential uses and applications of the shaft-mounted measurement system range from refinement of computational models to optimally match golfers tospecific equipment.
