I have a full machine shop to build performance
race engines and as you may suspect I build golf clubs. Since I live in the
country, 3phase power is out of the question. I have used static phase
converters where you do indeed lose efficiency is producing 3 phase power. But a
couple of years back, I built a 10 HP rotary phase converter and spent much time
balancing the 3rd leg to minimize the inefficiency of generating 3phase power. I
have had virtually no trouble running my mills, lathes, and 8-18 grinders
and crankshaft grinder. Works real well when I want to work on golf clubs. I do
agree with you on the idea of purchasing single phase machine when possible, but
it is cheaper and easier to find used machinery that is 3 phase.
thanks
