Pat,I had 4 Integra Super 450s cave in the first year they were out. They were right on the edge of conformance and the only head that I've ever experienced a trampoline effect at my swing speed (about 90-95 mph). Since then, I heard the company strengthened the face a bit. The present S450s aren't quite as long as they were, but are still one of the better feeling and performing big heads, IMO. A lot of suppliers dropped Integra last year because of their quality problems. I had more quality problems with GS heads (5 years ago) than I've had with Integra, though, so haven't bought many GS heads since then.I had an amusing failure with a quality made Chicago 966SD head a couple of years ago. The player kept beating it into the ground when he swung at the ball. Eventually, unknown to the player, a crack developed in the sole and began to pick up sand and dirt and water. Finally, it got so heavy, he couldn't swing it and asked his playing partner if he could see anything wrong with the club. Pretty obvious to his friend. When he brought it to me, the head must have tripled its weight, at least. Of the 50-60 or more of those heads that I have used, that was the only one which ever failed.Bernie

Shoptalkers,Is there a rule of thumb to go by for what size clubhead should be used for a specific swing speed? Has anyone seen more cave-ins with one component manufacturer more than others? I have been using one particular clubhead manufacturer with very good results but have had a few cave-ins, clubhead cracks etc. The company has made good on their policy of warranting their clubheads but I worry about my reputation as a clubmaker using cheap products and charging good money for profit only. Word of mouth is by far the best way to generate new customers. Anytime I've had this problem, I have always told the customer to bring the club to me and I would take care of it immediately, at no charge. Is this a small but common problem with anyone else? Does anyone find this problem with any one particular component manufacturer? At what point is it time to move on to another company? To all the metallurgist, is there something I should look at (with the naked eye) to give me some indication that a particular head is not what it should be? Any feed back would be greatly appreciated, privately or thru this forum. TIAPat McGoldrick--On Target Golf
