I think the main reason you would want to set it in playing position is what happens to excess epoxy as it cures.
In playing position it will stay down in the head ... in butt down position, it could run down the shaft as it cures. After it's dried, it could break off in the shaft and cause rattles -- or worse -- cause a shear point causing a graphite shaft to break.
