Easy solution is to use less grip tape. Apply only a 4" length to the butt area. Wet the untaped area along with the taped area and slide the grip on. If you still have a problem (with twisting of the grip at the butt after dry) add a two inch layer of masking tape to the butt under the grip tape. This seems to happen with GP Softies.
This is the same solution for the problem of "stretched" grips wanting to creep back. Too long of a piece of grip tape causes this type of creep.

I have always used 3/4' tape spiral wrapped and have never had them move.
