I am not sure you can get most grips to stretch 1 inch.   I do 3/4" on occasion but that takes me down a full 1/64 - 1/32.  If you can stretch it a full inch I would imagine you would have to build the grip up at least 3/64 to offset the stretch.  FWIW.  Yes, a very odd request.
