A guy asked me to reshaft his Scotty Cameron/Ping
Anser clone (I'm amazed Ping hasn't gone after this guy).
My first thought was that since Cameron's stuff
is as close a copy of a Ping that the shaft likely was attached via the crushed
ball-bearing method. So I told the guy that I possible would have to drill a
hole under the hosel and punch the bearing out. I tried heating it first. Lo and
behold, the shaft popped right out. It was held in place with just a little
epoxy.
What was even more interesting was that the tiny
hosel - about 1/2" deep, was taper tip!. Maybe that's how Cameron/Titleist can
get by with their blatant copies.
