Nope. Colin's Mark IV (am guessing at the model number, but used
to have one) is basically a tube-type spinefinder...two circular bearings
enclosed in a tube with a shaped and angled piece of wood attached to the tube
underneath, to hold the spinefinder in a vise. The third circular bearing has a
short chain attached and is used to pull down the tip. It's a well-made,
sensitive spinefinder, includes all instructions and has a reasonable price.
If you want to build a spinefinder, I think the Neufinder1 can do a
little more for about the same money and a Neufinder2, in addition to
spinefinding, can also accurately match a set of shafts faster than with a
frequency meter. The Neufinder4, plans soon to be released, will be even
better.
