I just assembled a set of irons with PC Xtra Lite shafts. 11 clubs. 3/LW + A wedge. I like Precision Composites shafts. I've sold a hell of a lot of Mach 22's, PC 50's, etc., so I'm not bitching. But here's what:

I was reshafting a set of Ping isi clones. Parallel tip hosel. I cleaned out the hosels the way I always have . . . with a Dremel mounted with a chainsaw sharpening bit. The hosels were pristine. I scraped the shaft tips as usual . . . a butcher knife wielded as a scraper. I scraped off a hell of a lot of paint. Got it down to the graphite, no further. Then the fun began. The shafts would not go into the hosels. So I reamed out the hosels with a fluted reamer to .372". Shafts still would not go in. So I sanded the tips slightly to obtain a force fit. So far so good. Then I tried to get the ferrule on. A little epoxy for lubricant and a little shove? Not a chance. So I heated the ferrules slightly and banged them into position with a home-made ferrule starter, then shoved them into place with the head. Then . . . blah blah blah, the job was done.

Seems as though the shaft tips on these here PC's are a lot thicker than .370". In fact, after scraping all the paint down to the graphite, they measured .372". Not a complaint. I like to have a little extra occasionally but dammit, this job took a lot longer than I'd have liked.

No matter. I like the PC line and will continue using it.

John Muir reps them and sell the stuff for the same price as the factory. I bought from the factory cuz its only a couple hundred miles from here and I get the stuff next day. If you want PC shafts and you aren't close to CA, call John.
