Dean,
A solution I use is the one Dr. Crag Farnsworth suggests in
"See It & Sink It". For a right-handed golfer, the left lens
is single vision and the right lens is bi-focal. The bi-focal
part is positioned low and right (or even on the extreme right
side). The bi-focal is "half-moon" shaped, which greatly
reduces the incursion of the bi-focal into your field of vision.

Using this configuration the bi-focal doesn't interfere with
your "full swing" or putter vision at all. In order to write
your score you look downward toward the right side.

An even cheaper way to do this, but I haven't tried it, is to
use single vision in both lenses and put one of those plastic
"stick-on" bi-focals, trimmed, on the right lens.

My wife used to be a nurse and they used bifocals that were placed at the
TOP of their glasses. I hadn't thought of that but maybe that would be a
help for reading the score card! Right now in our seniors group we all try
to shove the job of score keeping off on the other players.
