Title: RE: ShopTalk: New a new driver
Alan:
I carry SMT, Bang, Alpha, and Ashton. Wishon available direct for qualified clubmakers. I've hit all of their products and all are excellent, high quality heads.  The SMT Spectrum ($109) with the new Evolution ($89) "nano composite" shaft from Accuflex is a great combination. The head has a 2.25 inch bore thru so you might want to be careful choosing the right flex shaft. My ss is 100-105 and I had a tough time with the Stiff. You might consider an R, which will stiffen up to a firm. The translucent black head with the pearl orange/red shaft is sharp. Accuflex also has a new sheet rolled shaft called  CAS. 3.9 torque, 65g that is priced right at under $25, should play great with any of these heads. Metallic black is classy looking. Tons of other shafts at http://clubmaker-online.com.
The SMT 455 Deep bore ($135) with an AJ Tech 4360 "Raw Red" ($125) is the longest driver for me. The translucent red head may not be for you, though.
The Apache MFS Matrix is available in your choice of a low/mid/high launch, 9 different subflexes (probably an R3 or S1 for you) and in orange or midnight blue. 68g, 2.9 torque and includes a super secret material that gives the shaft a great feel. Price is $125 for that one.
The Bangomatic ($125), Alpha V2-425 ($199), and the Ashton X-1 ($169) are all fine products that are available in lower lofts. The Ashton X-1 head is 460cc and has a beatiful look. Great solid feel with the Moly-Ti face. I've probably hit my most consistently straight and long drives with the Alpha V2-425 head. Beautiful finish (face has a smoke black look) and a classic pear shape design. The Bangomatic is very popular on the long drive circuit and is available in the lower lofts you're considering (although I wouldn't suggest going with a 7 deg). Deep bore on that one, too. Careful with shaft flex choice.
The Aldila NV 65 in a stiff (the metallic green one, $84)) seems to offer a bit lower trajectory and might also work for you.

Alan,

Check out SMT,  Bang, and Wishon  (all available through John at Shoptalk).  I would also recommend that you look at Alpha and Ashton.  SMT and Bang probably have the biggest selection of head sizes and lofts available.  I am currently playing a 401cc Bang-o-matic at 13* (spec was 14*).  I hit everything low, the opposite of your problem, and really like the looks of this head.  The Bang-o-matic is available in dark blue and dark maroon at 401cc, and in black at 460cc.  I think lofts range from around 5-6* up to 14* for both size heads, and the face angle for the 401cc BOM is only 0.25* closed (nearly square).  SMT has a number of heads available from around 390cc-460cc, and in a wide variety of lofts, but I'm not sure of the face angles (generally more closed the higher the loft).  Wishon may not have heads with lofts less than 9-10*.  Alpha and Ashton are quite popular over on the FGI forum, but I don't have a lot of info on thier heads.

Subject: ShopTalk: New a new driver

Hi everyone,
I want a new driver and I could use some help in a couple of areas. My current  driver is a 45" 9.5 Hi-cor from Golfsmith with a grafalloy prolite 35. My swing speed is 101mph and I hit my drives very well and consistently with a draw.(250 yards) My concern is I hit all the drivers i have played with a very high trajectory and usually get no roll or even suck back on the fairways. I have made a few of these for playing partners and they hit there drives much lower..so It's me with my decending blow. i have tried using different tee heights etc. I think It maybe time to try a 7 or 8 degree lofted head. What are some great performers and I do like heads that look nice at address, such as a nice paint jobs.
Thanks Alan
