Jeremy,
OK, using my downloaded Swingweight Estimator, and assuming a shaft insertion
depth of 1", I plugged in the figures of 45" club length, 46" raw shaft, 75
gram shaft weight, head weight of 201 grams and grip weight of 42 grams.
Swingweight calculation reads D8 and total weight of 319 grams. Seems like
pretty ordinary components to me. I suppose Knight has just done a good job of
matching well designed components and probably tested the clubs extensively
with all kinds of players. (I hear there are several different versions of
these drivers available but haven't yet checked them out at Wally World.) They
probably contract for several hundred thousand Chinese components, don't have
to advertise (though there are some display and print costs), assemble overseas
for only a few bucks a club and ship in volume.
All kind of amazing, but I can see how it's possible to sell these under $30.
Because it's a generic club, though, you can beat it on performance and
durability, if not value. Golfers seem willing to pay more for a little better
performance...and the personal attention, explanations of detail and help
learning to hit the club.
