Hi Jeremy,

Following the previous discussions on the 'Heavy Putter', and Dave T's comments on their design goal and what I learned from their web site, I decided to try it. I use a 'two ball' putter and a pendular putting stroke. It had occurred to me (as I posted) that the butt weight would slow down the natural rotation of the putter about it's own c.g. (the MOI of the putter about its c.g. is increased). Accordingly, I tried to add enough weight to the butt so that when I 'released the pendulum' it felt like the putter was rotating at the same rate as my arms (i.e. no force from the club trying to push back on my hands from the club rotating faster than my arms). It turns out that a 9/16 bolt fits into the end of a 0.600 steel shaft quite nicely so I cut the cap off my grip and started adding bolts of different lengths until I reached a point where it no longer felt like the club was pushing back on my hands (the club and my hands are rotating at the same rate (which actually I think is rotation about the center of percussion of the club). This took a 4-inch bolt (143-g).

I have been very pleased with the results. It, of course, is not clear whether this is a real improvement or just better focus from having made a change. Time will tell, but I think you would find it worth a shot.

Regards,

Alan Brooks

Has anyone tried to find out the specs of the Heavy Putter and if so have you tried to build something along similiar lines?
