When selecting clubs I beleive in fitting people, not gender. That said there are still numerous gender based clubs. As you've already noticed there are not alot of differences.  The major difference in mens vs womens clubs is swing weight and lie. Both of which are due in great meassure to the shorter length in most womens clubs. Build clubs for individual playing abilities, not because of gender bias.

Time to get off my soap box

I would suggest something with a lower center of gravity, (like the Calloway X series heads), and plenty of offset. Also a softer shaft so they have a chance of hitting the ball. Otherwise a well fit club and some lessons will make the experience more enjoyable.  If it has to be ladies Golfworks has some good heads. On the inexpensive side alot of component companies sell a Calloway look-a-like called Lady Grand Hawk.

Hope this was some help.

About the only 'womens' left handed heads I have found where you don't have to buy a 3-pw set are the GS Saphires.  Any other ones out there?  I realize that most womens heads are just painted different mens heads, but its a start.  On the other hand if I can convince(show) them (boyfriend buying for girlfriend) are there some heads out there that seem to work particularly well for women.  She's a beginner, not real athletic, and hopefully will get some lessons!!
