One thing I've done in a pinch is use two o-rings. I used a small one that would fit inside the grove, then a slightly larger one that would fit over the top and cover the hosel nicely. It was a rush job (guy dropped it off and needed it back the next day), and I just took the head & a short chunk of shaft w/me to the hardware and tried a bunch of o-rings until I found two that would work.

I've since stocked both .335 & .350 collared 1/8" ferrules, just in case.

The plug in the shaft tip is a piece of plastic. The ferrule is a "lipped" O ring. Scrape the paint from the tip and shove it through for fit. Once you have it set, slip the ferrule on, add the epoxy and shove the tip through completely. Remember you have to get the tip far enough through the head so that the entire tip is showing. I like to use a piece of fish line to shim the assembly in place tightly. Then, on your belt sander, grind the tip nearly flush with the sole. Epoxy a piece of plastic plug and tap it into the shaft tip. Snip off the protruding bit of plastic and on your 3M finishing wheel, finish the assembly flush. Then wipe the whole thing with acetone and set the club aside. If you're adding a plug to the butt end do it now, or later.

If you've never done one of these no sweat. Just take your time.

I have done Berthas before(I had to do a bore through for my PCS Certification Exam 8 years ago )but can,t remember the stepped hosel I don't really like just using an O ring as it leaves a little bit of the shaft unsupported in a critical place (golfworks Canada is 10 minutes up the road from my office the guys there are very helpful but not very experienced or PCS Certified ---they just glue an O ring on for cosmetic purposes) Callaway presumably changed to this special ferrule to provide a liitle more protection for the shaft at the top of a very short hosel I think I have an answer to the ferrule problem if it works I will post it for everyone.

I'm a Brit living in Canada in my younger days I spent some time seriving with 3 Para in Suez Cypruss Jordan and Lebanon "Snipers " there were a bit more of a problem.

Scott thanks Whar I actually did was to take a shaft sleeve for VFT. ERC& Taylor Made ( golfsmith cat page 126

D 42334) and cut the bottom off leaving 1/4''' of collar its not quite the same as an O ring but with a new shaft it looks fine and does the job Every thing else went in accordance with the "Tflan Plan "except the bore was .a dead fit for .335" with no taper at the bottom

As this club has been repaired by Callaway I wonder is they bored it out to save any hassle.!

A small thing for anyone doing bore throughs if you think you're smart and push the shaft through ,mark it ,take it out and speed up the trimming by cutting the first major bit of the angle of f. before you glue it into the head make SURE when you mark the angle the Shaft is oriented (by spine or logo or whatever) as you need it in the finished club Finising club tonight with a little skill and some luck.
