When regripping Taylor Made with Rifle shafts I have found that R-80 = 4.5 and S-90 = 5.5 according to Rifle tags on the shaft butt.

My own limited experience is that the S-90 Rifle is a lot stiffer (both on the bench and in play) than the S-90 graphite. Apparently Taylor Made felt that guys who want steel shafts are a different species from those who want graphite, and they want to play a much stiffer club.

Dave & Arnie,

Thanks for your help. I guess that I will buy them. 5.5 might be a bit ( don't know I have never hit a rifle) stiff for me, but given that the set has a 2i & 3i, both of which I don't carry, there is plenty of room to soften that designation. Was hoping to hear that these shafts play just like "real" rifles.

When I see an Adams logo on a NV shaft, I have no clue whether that is the exact same NV as one without the Adams logo. Maybe when I get a NF4 I will get the answer on this. My assumption is that the specs on the NV have been altered to what Barney wanted them to be. Then again ... as Colonel Klink would say, "I know nothing".

I have never had the opportunity to hit both the steel and graphite of the same model. That must have been an interesting comparison. What similarities did you feel or notice in the ball flight?
