I have raced E Scows and owned a smaller scow to teach my daughters (a Butterfly). Started sailing in 1956 with the purchase of a Lightening with a friend. At that time it was for social reasons and named the boat "Sin or Swim", after my buddy's WWll naval Dad guided us through a complete rebuild and fitting we were taught how to sail. Took girlfriends on the boat once and found that they got in the way! Took to racing. My buddy and I still crew on Chicago and Port Huron to Machinac races but now I prefer cruising with my Hunter 40. When it comes to refitting this boat $$$$ I wish I still had my Newport 17! :>)
