This should be no cause for surprise.

If you do either robot testing or computer simulation, counterweighting (or differing grip weights) make no measurable difference in performance. That's because they make only a miniscule difference in the physics. Conclusion: the human factor. Specifically, the club feels a little different, causing the golfer to make a different swing with it.
