Cut half of the angle off and adjust the insertion depth. Hell, you can
cut it all off. It won't hurt. This is a really common, simple job.
Don't make it more difficult. What's the worst that could happen? You
don't like a free shaft? Toss it.

Cosmetics I'm not that worried about - if I looked too good, it wouldn't
match the turd on the other end of the shaft.
