The shaft shouldn't break because of swing speed. If it did we would see a lot
more of them breaking on TV with guys like JB Holmes and Tiger and the rest of
the bombers out there on tour.   Tell him to slow down his swing so he stops
hitting the ball near the heal of the club.  A little shorter shaft might help
him do that.   Or even a little softer shaft might help him get center hits
because it will bend downward a bit more getting the ball more towards the
center.  But again the shafts are not breaking due to swing speed, it's his off
center hits towards the heal that breaking them.

If your shim is done correctly the shaft shouldn't know the difference.

Subject: ShopTalk: .350 Shim-125 mph ss

I have a customer looking at a XX flex shaft to put in a Callaway. I was going
to simply shim it or use an adaptor and a .335 shaft but wonder if it's not a
good idea with that fast a swing. He seems to break a lot of shafts.
