Scott I am a retired engineer and now to age I am
an amateur clubmaker. I am surprised due to your clients
130 mph swing speed that you want a 8 or 8.5 loft driver.
From my own family my youngest one swung at 125 so I
assembled him a 5.5 and 7.5* loft with xs shafts. Your boy
is in John Daly class and should have a xxs shaft. Now for getting
a cheap assembly. HIREKO has an 8.5 LH head for closeout
at $19.95. There are stiff shafts on Ebay and the prices vary.
Since this is a hobby I due the total assembly for $6. I use
slow setting epoxies to gain higher shear strenght, not used
by production assembliers. That 125 mph of mine caved in
a TRIDENT head, spun off an ACCUFLEX assembled head,
an after reepoxing broke the shaft in the hosel never hitting
the turf behind the ball. This is one reason why shaft manufacturers
pay only 50% on LD shafts. I hope I gave you a little insight
into your clients considerations. You can call me or email
me your phone number as I can call you free. Sincerely
JOHN K

Subject: ShopTalk: need a left handed driver head 8-8.5°
I've got a local kid that can really bomb it that is looking to have me
build him a driver so he can mess around a bit with long driving. I
measured him last summer at around 130 mph, and he can really bust it
pretty good. He's a scratch to borderline + handicap, so he has some game
as well.
Anyway, I'm looking to find a left-handed driver in the 8-8.5° range for
him to try out. He is on a budget, so hoping to not break the bank.
Thanks,
Scott
