I am a little lost in your description! You failed to mention what your son ate for breakfast! :>) Now the solution. 1. you can clamp the shaft, heat the shaft just above the hosel and with a gloved hand twist and remove the head 2. You can remove the grip, slip a piece of PVC tubing over the shaft until one end touches the head and the other end the pushing part of your shaft extractor AFTER HEATING THE SHAFT/HOSEL JOINT AS ABOVE now use the extractor to push off the head. #1 is easier.
