Steve;

Sure enough. . . if you stamp a forged carbon steel iron, you will crack the
chrome plating where you hammer the stamp into the head and it will slowly
begin to rust around the edges of each letter or number you stamp. You of
course can live with the rust and clean it off as it forms, or you could have
the heads re chromed. BTW, when the chrome cracks, it also has a tendency to
peel slightly so you’ll probably lose some plating coverage for a few
millimeters around the letter or number stamp.

Subject: ShopTalk: Stamping Irons

Has anyone had good luck stamping forged irons?

I have a set of Miuras going in for loft lie check and I was going to whack and
paint fill some initials into them before they go, but wanted to get some
advice from here before I went too wild.

Any input you all have would be great.

Thanks!
Steve
