Have you made any attempt to systematically troubleshoot the problem? a) Are you seeing anything in the Shorewall log when mail delivery fails? b) Are you seeing anything in the mail server logs on either end when mail delivery fails? c) Have you looked at the problem with a packet sniffer to see what is happening? For example, is it the initial SMTP connection that is failing or is the SMTP protocol failing after the initial connection?
