The functions file in the current errata/Shorewall directory
(http://www1.shorewall.net/pub/shorewall/3.2/shorewall-3.2.8/errata/Shorewall/)
invokes a 'compiler' extension script during compiler startup. This
script can be used to pull what you need from the remote system.

I think it's better to put that under user control rather than for
Shorewall to try to anticipate what information you need.
