CentOS is the open source binary compatible clone of Red Hat Enterprise
Linux that has practically frozen kernel currently on 2.6.18, but with
upgrades and additions retrofitted from later kernels.

That means that some problems occurring in new kernels can find it's way
in latest CentOS/RHEL kernels. Procedure is to report this either on
CentOS support forum or to Red Hat kernel bug tracking portal.

I always use centos.plus kernels since they have all of the options
available turned ON unlike standard RHEL/CentOS kernels that have very
balanced kernel but with lot of mostly unneeded options turned OFF. So
try centos plus kernel with same number as regular.

If you compile brand new kernel, you will no longer have CentOS and
there is possibility of many more problems ahead, so this course is not
at all recomended. Better go with the Fedora if you want brand new and
shiny bells and whistles.
