If you have utilized one of the available Shorewall HOWTOs from the
upstream documentation, then you should be all set.  If you want to
verify the firewall's configuration, then run 'sudo iptables -nL' and
examine the output.  That will tell you precisely how how Linux will
filter traffic.

As far as efficient, unless you are filtering 10 Gbps of traffic or
above through your firewall, you probably do not need to worry about
that.
