Hopefully that is a typo and the command actually reads '...family inet'. root@gateway:~# cat /etc/debian_version 7.6 root@gateway:~# ipset -N fooX22329 hash:ip family inet root@gateway:~# So clearly that command shouldn't be producing the results you are seeing.
