Thomas D has discovered that the fix for LOG_BACKEND released in 4.6.4.2 does not correct the problem on newer kernels. 4.6.4.2 corrected the problem on Debian Squeeze and RHEL6 and derivatives, but it did not correct Fedora, RHEL7, Debian Jessie and Gentoo. I suspect that OpenSuSE was also not corrected.
Shorewall 4.6.4.3 corrects the problem on these remaining systems.
