I apologize for putting this on the shorewall list. I analyzed all my log files, systemd enable, .... I checked everything I could think of. However, after updating the system (apt-get upgrade) the problem seems to have disappeared. Previously, in the log (journalctl -b -1 -e), I did not see shorewall stopping, but now I am. Not sure what was fixed, but shorewall stopping in debian Jessie seems to be working again. Wayne
