When shorewall is installed in Debian 10, files
/etc/shorewall/interfaces, /etc/shorewall/snat and others are
installed. They are skeletal and need adaptation.

> Was it installed in /etc/ ?

In Debian, shorewall configuration files are in /etc/shorewall/. In
addition to interfaces and snat mentioned above there is
/etc/shorewall/shorewall.conf and others.

> Are you proposing to put that there ?

No. Please refer to the message I sent after that. NET_IF is given a
value in /etc/shorewall/params. As you stated earlier, the "$" is
absent in a few places. The Debian distribution was built wrong.

> I doubt that's needed or working.

Correct. /etc/network/interfaces should not be tampered. I put
"NET_IF=wlxa0f3c10a28f7" in /etc/shorewall/params.

I remain puzzled that shorewall worked here for years without NET_IF
in params. The default route is available without
/etc/shorewall/params.

In any case, progress here.

Thanks for the help, ... P.
