Do you *know* what your IPtables rules are actually supposed to do?
If so, then you shouldn't have too much difficulty writing Shorewall
rules to achieve the same goal. Its syntax is far more human-readable
and human-intelligible than IPtables/IPchains/NFtables. Almost its
entire point is to generate iptables rules from a format humans can read
and understand.
If you *don't* know what your iptables rules do, then your first job
should probably be to figure that out. Good luck with that. iptables
is utterly Greek to me, for one, and I can't point you at any good
sources for understanding it because I don't know any.
If you don't know what your iptables rules do but know what you *WANT*
them to do, then have you considered just writing a Shorewall ruleset
from scratch to accomplish the things you actually want to do?
