When you upload to Google+ it still says Picasa in Shotwell I think.. so
that is probably not the problem.

Picasa is kind of equal to Google+ now in regards of photos.

Dan, I think you should upgrade to Ubuntu 14.04 (next LTS after 12.04) to
see if it works better with current software.
