(Actually, it was you that mentioned it to us Stuart, just last night. No wonder I thought I'd heard this so recently! Another beer, please.) Shotwell has a shunt inside the import code: if a file is already in the Pictures directory, it will never be copied, even if the user selects Copy instead of Link. So, no worries.
