In general, I think it's a bad idea to store application private data
directories in places like Photos or Pictures.  Even though it's a way of
putting all your photo "stuff" in a central place, I see other problems,
especially since Shotwell 0.8 will begin monitoring your library directory
for changes and to auto-import new files.  (I just realized that in trunk it
will monitor hidden directories too -- I've ticketed this:
http://trac.yorba.org/ticket/2876).

I think you'd be better off just copying/moving both sets of directories
when you move machines, as well if you want to back it up.

We do have a ticket to perform an automated backup of Shotwell:
http://trac.yorba.org/ticket/1963  This could be worked in such a way to
also allow moving your library from one machine to another.
