You should find the files in the "Missing" folder - delete them from here and empty the Wastebasket. When you import the renamed folder all should be well. (I'd expected that once I'd put the unwanted records in the wastebasket, that reimporting would obliterate the faulty records, but what happened was that the unwanted records were restored as they were - they pointed to the (incorrectly entered) directory.
