If you have a large memory card in your camera and only download the
photos every once in a while, it's common to have a whole bunch of
unrelated things in a single download, in which case the automatic
division by date comes in handy (tho it's not perfect by any stretch of
the imagination, but it's a good heuristic). Note that this is not
incompatible with a unification of folder names and events.
